Rutherford's Dempsey Out As Head Football Coach

Springfield, FL---Surprising news has been released out of Rutherford High School Friday concerning the departure of head football coach, Alvin Dempsey.

Sources close to the school and coach Dempsey tell us he was fired, on the heels of two losing seasons, 3-7 in 2012, 2-8 last year.

The school though emailing us a written statement today stating coach Dempsey resigned based on health and personal reasons.

We made repeated attempts to speak with coach Dempsey this afternoon, without any luck.

I spoke by phone with Rutherford Athletic Director Kirk Harrell and asked him if there was any pressure put on coach Dempsey to leave. Harrell says it was the coach's decision to leave.

Harrell says coach Dempsey informed his players today, and even spoke with them as to the nature of the health reasons leading to his decision.

The timing here is difficult, given spring ball is just three weeks away.

Harrell says they'll likely name an interim coach while they go through the process of searching for a new head coach. He adds they'll begin advertising the job immediately, but won't rush through a decision just for the sake of spring.

So coach Harrell says, he has no timetable for conducting interviews, or having a new head coach hired.
