Saban Not Pleased with Tide Practice Effort

Tuscaloosa, AL---After the team's first scrimmage and a few practices afterward, Alabama head coach Nick Saban seems less than pleased with the way his team is working this week.

Coach Saban, speaking after practice Tuesday, said there was too much "inconsistent" play during the scrimmage, though he did admit performance perhaps suffered because of the rainy conditions.

Since then though he's seen a less than impressive effort from his guys, during what he calls a crucial week, since he and his coaches are working to instill many aspects of the offense and defense this week.

He indicated the practices Monday and Tuesday were uninspired. After the latter workout, he says he wants team leaders to lead "all the time".

He then went on to say all this not too big of a surprise!

"This is always a tough week." Saban said Tuesday afternoon. "The first week everyone's excited to start football and all that. Then you kind of have this week, which is kind of a hump week. Have another scrimmage, get a couple of days off, then you start school. And we're practicing once a day. And then the game's coming. So it's really important that we get a lot of things covered this week, improve a lot this week. Everybody's focus has got to be on that."

The Tide now two and a half weeks away from the opener on the 30th against West Virginia in Atlanta.
