Kissimmee, FL--The Mosley Dolphins are celebrating an individual state championship thanks to the efforts of weightlifter Eddie San Juan.
Saturday at the Kissimmee Civic Center, which hosted the 2A state weightlifting meet, or the larger half of schools across Florida, San Juan nailed down the individual title in the 169 pound class.
Eddie the favorite in his class going in, and with good reason, he lifted more than anyone across the state in that class in sectionals.
He lives up to the billing Saturday with a lift of 370 on the bench, another 300 on the clean and jerk. His 670 total some 65 pounds more than the second place lifter from New Smyrna Beach.
So Eddie easily claims the 169 individual state championship.
Other placers from our area so far, Fort Walton's Seth Bowling gets second in 154, with a total weight of 605, just five pounds the eventual winner. Choctaw's Thomas Forte gets a third place in the 129's, with a total of 485, 20 pounds shy of the winner. And Crestview's Earl Reed grabs the silver in the heavyweight class with a total of 735, just 15 pounds shy of the winning total.
