Miramar Beach, FL---The folks at Sandestin Beach Resort are getting set to host a triathlon for the 28th year.
The Sandestin Triathlon is set for Saturday morning. That event what they call a sprint triathlon, a half mile swim, a 20 mile bike and 4 mile run, set for early Saturday morning.
"Our max is at 800 (competitors) and we are right at that." Race Director Adam Alfonso told us Thursday afternoon. "The registration is closed and we have packet pickup that will be going on tomorrow. (Friday) The majority of the racers come from Louisiana, we have a few from Mississippi. And then we have a lot from our area, right here on the Emerald Coast."
They send the racers off in age-group waves starting at 6:30. Adam says they are well aware of how how it may get Saturday, even in the morning hours. They'll have plenty of safety and medical personnel on hand, and plenty of water from Kentwood Springs and Powerade, two of the races big sponsors.
