Bossier City, LA----A pair of local anglers are among those competing in the F-L-W Bass Angling Championship, the Forrest Wood Cup near Shreveport, Louisiana. One of those two locals, Randall Tharp of Port St. Joe is leading the way after the first weigh-in.
Thursday the first of four days of fishing, and it's Tharp with a very good day indeed on the Red River near Bossier City. Randall would boat 5 bass totaling 18.05 pounds and that's good enough for the first day lead.
He's a tenth of a pound ahead of the second place angler, Bryan Thrift out of North Carolina. Third place is 13 pounds, so some space between second and third.
Panama City's Drew Benton well back in the pack with an aggregate weight of 7.05 pounds, so he has a lot of ground to make up starting Friday.
If Tharp can hang on to first for three more days, he'll pocket half a million bucks.
