Port St. Joe, FL--The deal is finally done for St. Joe star athlete Roman Quinn. Roman getting word from the Philadelphia Phillies organization earlier this evening that they had agreed to his signing bonus asking price of 775 thousand dollars. So he's agreed to sign, though he won't actually ink the contract until he heads down to Clearwater for his rookie ball assignment in the next few days.
That signing comes just hours before midnight eastern time deadline M-L-B has for teams to sign this year's draftees. Quinn, number 3 in the video here, did have a scholarship offer from FSU in hand, so he had leverage. He was a second round pick by the Phil's back on June 7th, 66th overall. So his patience paying off. Hailed as perhaps the fastest player in this year's draft, Quinn played short, second and center field for TC Brewer and the Sharks, the Phillies project him as a middle infielder, but may move him to the outfield. He'll be assigned soon, likely to rookie ball in Clearwater.
