Sandestin, FL-- This is the time of year when big game fishermen set their sights of going after big blue marlin. Among the big money tournaments that allow them to do just that in our area, the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic which this year is set for June 22nd through the 25th. Already there are 45 boats signed up, but organizers, despite missing last year because of the oil spill, are hoping that number climbs big time over the next three plus weeks.
"Our goal is to always have 100 boats. The feedback's been nothing but positive, we've had boats signed up for over a year and everybody's really ready to get out there and fish."
Even though they did host a smaller tourney the late Summer last year after the oil had cleared, Shawna says she's hearing from plenty of crews who are itching to compete in a full fledged tourney like the ECBC. The Mobile Big Game Fishing Club had 93 boats participate, and plenty of big fish weighed in this past weekend, including three blue's one at 689, the biggest of the three this 706 pounder, so it's another indication the fishing is very good in the Gulf.
