Panama City, FL--There's some very sad news Monday concerning the Gulf Coast Softball family.G.C. assistant coach Tim Cox on the left side of the screen here, passed away early Monday morning from complications of diabetes and a viral infection. He was 55.
A native of Ohio, Cox was a veteran fast pitch player himself in his younger days, he joined Painter's progam back in '95 and has been with it ever since.
Coach Painter telling me Monday Tim was truly a gentleman who showed kindness, patience, and loyalalty to Gulf Coast and all the girls associated with the program. She says quite simpy, tt's a sad day.
Athletic Director Greg Wolfe put it this way today quote "his ability to evaulate talent and and recruit have been major components in the success of our softball program for many years. He had a positive impact on so many of our student athletes over the years, with his quiet and lighthearted demeanor he was able to communicate with our players and coach them in a way that was both unique and effective. We will always remember Tim and his memory will be engrained in our softball program forever."
Some kind of memorial celebration of Cox's life will be held by the school with the current and many past players taking part, coach Painter says that's likely going to be a private memorial.
