This may not be high school football season, but there is some news that affects area teams in a big way. The new district assignments for 2011 and 2012 are out. The classes now go up to 8-A, though there were 8 different classes last year, now there's now "B" classes.
Let's show you some of the bigger schools and how they'll line up in the Fall. Choctaw, Crestview, Fort Walton Mosley and Niceville will all play in 6-A two. Choctaw simply an addition to last year's 4-A district two. Last year the Indians played as part of 3-A one, that's now 5-A one, with Arnold, Bay, Gulf Breeze, Rutherford and West Florida. Pensacola, last year's district champ gets bumped up to 6-A.
And just two area teams now in the 4-A class, Marianna which will play alongside East Gadsden Taylor.
Coming up at ten we'll talk about some of the smaller classifications, and how the area teams line up, a big change in store as the state's now dividing the private and public schools into urban and rural classes. The schools in our area that have between 44 and 600 students will now play in what they call the rural or 1-A class. Here's the district assignments for those local teams, Freeport and Northview part of district one. Cottondale, Graceville, Sneads Vernon and Wewa make up district two. Bozeman, Chipley, Holmes and South Walton are district 3, and district four has Blountstown
Franklin, Liberty, St. Joe and West Gadsden. A total of 55 schools in this 1-A or rural class. Below is a list of all the class and district reclassifications involving area schools.
