Panama City Beach, FL---As NewsChannel 7 Sports first reported Friday, we reported Arnold High School had made a selection in their search for a new head baseball coach, going with the Memphis based Mike Thees, a former assistant on the Division two, Juco, and high school level.
Today, we have learned that Thees has turned down the opportunity to become the new leader of the Marlins baseball team.
Speaking with Arnold Principal Keith Bland earlier this afternoon, he told us that while Thees was officially offered the head coaching position, he had not signed a contract, nor had the hire been approved by the Bay County School Board, meaning he had yet to begin any official tenure at the school.
Bland says he will work alongside AD Katie McCurdy, who is in that position until the end of June, and the hiring committee to go back to the beginning of their search and have a coach in place as soon as possible to get in with the players and begin the summer workout schedule.
The school has been without a manager for the squad since former head coach Mitch Kelly announced his resignation back in the very end of April.
