MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) --Roger Federer gave 20-year-old Bernard Tomic an instant reality check in moving into the fourth round at the Australian Open.
The last Aussie exited the event Saturday night, with second-seed Federer beating Tomic 6-4, 7-6, 6-1 in the third round.
Other third-round winners were No. 3 Andy Murray, No. 7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, No. 9 Richard Gasquet, No. 13 Milos Raonic, No. 14 Gilles Simon and No. 21 Andreas Seppi.
Among the seeded men's losers were No. 6 Juan Martin del Potro, No. 12 Marin Cilic (CHIHL'-ihch) and No. 17 Philipp Kohlschreiber.
In women's singles, top-seed Victoria Azeranka, No. 3 Serena Williams, No. 10 Caroline Wozniacki, No. 14 Maria Kirilenko and No. 29 Sloane Stephens all advanced.
Seeded women losing included No. 16 Roberta Vinci, No. 20 Yanina Wickmayer and 42-year-old Kimiko Date-Krumm.
Saturday nights schedule includes men's top seed Novak Djokovic and No. 2 women's seed Maria Sharapova in action.
