Orlando, FL---The Blountstown Tigers came up one game shy of hauling in that program's 4th state football title Friday night. Two passes, one on defense, the other on offense, doing in the Tigers, as they fall to Trenton 14-0 in the 1A State Championship game at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
The Tigers struggled mightily on offense in the first half, unable to get much traction with some turnovers and penalties hurting the cause. The only first half score in fact would be a 54 yard touchdown pass for Trenton, it was 7-0 into the intermission.
Then in the third quarter, Hunter Jordan had a pass picked off and returned 35 yards for another score, and that would be it in terms of the scoring in the game. The Tigers lose 14-0, and wind up the season at 13-1 and as 1A State Runner Up.
The attached video shows the following:
-Early second quarter, trailing 7-0 the Tigers appear to be on the move and in fact cross midfield but Fabian Solomon loses the handle on this carry, Trenton recovers at their 43.
-Trenton would fumble it right back three players later and though the Tigers did get a few good plays on offense like Hunter Jordan's 25 yard catch and run to midfield here the Tigers kept off the board in the first 24 minutes, they go to the break down 7-0.
Third quarter again an exchange of punts, but then disaster for the Tigers offense Hunter Jordan is picked by Micheal Smith at the 35, and he returns it for 6, and it's 14-0 Trenton midway through the third.
Dylan Lee would toss another interception a bit later on, and Trenton goes into a clock-killing ground game that helps them eat away much of the 4th quarter. I\t ends 14-0.
A tough way for a great season to end, Blountstown finishes 13-1 and as state runner up.
