Tigers To Deal With Prom While Planning For Trip To State

Chipley, FL---The Chipley baseball team continues to work towards it's first ever trip to the state finals, and that trip comes over the weekend.

The Tigers practicing at home again Thursday and will work out yet again Friday.

Coach Andy Compton and his guys coming off the 1-0 win over Bozeman Tuesday in the region finals.

That punched their ticket to Fort Myers and a 10 a.m. eastern time game Monday morning against Lafayette in the 1A state finals.

As for planning that trip south, well there's a bit of a complication for coach Compton, Chipley's prom is Friday night at Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City Beach.

"We never want to take an event like that away from our guys." coach Andy Compton told Greg Brzozowski Thursday afternoon at practice. "That's why they go to school for that. Our guys will work through it, we knew it was a possibility. Our plan is, they're gonna go to the prom and we're gonna pick a group up of guys up here from the school, here at 5:30 in the morning, Saturday morning, the ones that don't go. And then we're gonna drive to Edgewater and pick those guys up, have a sendoff right there, and go down there and play."

The Tigers take a 22-7 record with them to Fort Myers. If they win that game, and Paxton beats Williston in the other 1A semifinal, then the two area teams will go head to head in Tuesday's state championship game.
