Panama City, FL---Bay is among the school football teams getting set for the start of district play. Remember, only district games matter when it comes to determining who goes to the playoffs in each district.
For the Tornadoes, the district opener comes Thursday night. Coach Jimmy Longerbeam and his guys host Pensacola Catholic. Bay goes in with a 2-1 mark, having beaten Marianna and St. Joe to start the season, then losing at Tate this past Friday.
"You know I think we're in pretty good shape," says Longerbeam "most of our kids our healthy. And it's been a good experience all the way around. You know we lost the other night to a pretty good team, we were up 21-20 going into the 4th quarter and couldn't hold on at the end."
Catholic comes into the match up 3 and oh with wins over Navarre, Pine Forest and Pensacola, so some big schools there. Longerbeam is sufficiently impressed.
"I tell ya they've got a very good program. I think they're third in the state in 5A and they're really talented on both sides of the ball. It's gonna be a real test for us. They're really, really good and where they're putting people away is in the second half. A lot of their games are close in the first half and they're real explosive in the second half."
That game Thursday set for a 7 o'clock kickoff at Tommy Oliver.
