Two Area Football Players Make Verbal College Declarations

Springfield, FL--Call it getting a potentially big distraction out of the way before the season even begins.

A couple of talented ballplayers making their choice as to where they will attend and play college ball.

First off, Rutherford senior to be Dondrell Harris. Dondrell, who's played quarterback, receiver and defensive back for the Rams, verbally declaring for Troy, so he'll stay in the region after his senior season.

Dondrell 5-11, 180 pounds. He's projected as what college recruiters call an "athlete" which means he can play a few different positions, it will likely come down to either receiver or defensive back.

Meanwhile up at Bozeman, senior to be defensive lineman Chandler Burkett has chosen Florida International, so he'll head south and play for Mario Cristobal, the former UM standout.

Burkett 6-4, 225 pounds, runs a 4.6-40. Last year in his junior season he was dominant on the dee line, 78 total tackles, with 5 sacks and caused 5 fumbles.

Chandler choosing FIU over offers from FAU, Maryland and Troy, among others.

Again these are verbal commitments, and aren't binding, and won't be until signing day come February.
