USFA Battles Weather in Final Round

Panama City Beach, FL---Softball fans tuning in to the Women's College World Series didn't have to go to Oklahoma City to catch it live, but could take in the action right off the beach over at Frank Brown Park.

That's where the United States Fastpitch Association was hosting championship day action of it's Fastpitch in Paradise Tournament.

48 youth travel teams from Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee battled for a chance at some hardware Sunday, but also were left battling the weather. Rain delays held up the action as spectators took cover and tournament officials looked to fix the mess.

Play picked up once the fields were deemed ready to go, but it did lead to a bit chaos to get things moving again.

"It's a real problem trying to get the schedule revised," says tournament director Ron Clark. "We had to drop some of the pool games and go directly into bracket games. We had to reduce the time limits on the games. When you have these rain delays, it's really pretty tough to try and get your tournament in.But hopefully if we don't get any more rain we'll get done at a decent time tonight."

USFA is a frequent visitor to PCB. The organization will hold their World Series Championship tournament at Frank Brown July 6-12 for 8U, 10U, and 12U and 13-19 for 14U, 16U, and 18U.
