Vernon, FL---Wednesday turned into a rather momentous day for the Vernon boy's basketball program. For the first time ever, a Vernon hoops star signing a division one basketball scholarship Wednesday afteroon.
That player is Alex Brown who signed an offer from Louisiana Monroe a school that plays in the Sun Belt Conference.
Brown a 6 foot 3 inch shooting guard who averaged 32 points and 6 rebounds a game, helping Vernon to a 17-8 season, it's first winning season since 2005.
"It means a lot, I mean with hard work and dedication you can achieve anything." Brown told us just after his signing. "I just put my mind to it, and I just believe that God can do anything. For me that's what it is. Louisiana it's a great place. They're losing the starting two guard and they signed me. Hopefully I can get in there and make some shots. They said they had some pretty bad shooting this past year and a shooter is what I am, so I'm going in there to shoot."
