Bonifay, FL---The immediate future of Holmes basketball star Chris Walker remains up in the air! He still remains in limbo in terms of his academic eligibility for division one athletics.
Walker, who helped lead Holmes to the 1A state title, signed with the University of Florida and his hoping to join the Gators for the fall semester which begins in late August. The University though says Walker still has not been cleared academically by the NCAA Clearinghouse, which looks into the academic qualifications of prospective division one student athletes.
Walker by the way, is no longer residing in our area, as he works feverishly to get academically eligible. Walker's head coach at Holmes Poe White telling us Chris has moved to Ocala with his family, while he awaits word from the NCAA Clearinghouse.
It's worth noting, Walker, struggling to make grades, took the better part of two weeks off this spring semester to play in two national all star games! Coach White couldn't say if he got tutoring or did any school work on those trips.
Coach White says he spoke with Walker Monday morning, and he says he told Chris to ignore all the negativity surrounding his eligibility, and just concentrate on getting that academic work done, and to keep working hard on the court.
The fall semester at UF begins August 21st, but a sports information spokesman tells us there is always a drop/add period at the beginning of the semester so they wouldn't characterize the 21st as a hard deadline.
Chris could also fail to get cleared for the fall, and then join the Gators in January, though that would mean missing several games!
