Carrabelle, FL--Wewahitchka 10-U Angels are making plans to head north for the Dixie Youth Softball World Series next week, thanks to a win in the Dixie Youth State Tournament which wrapped up Monday in Carrabelle.
Wewa beat Holmes County Monday afternoon 9-4 in a head to head battle to determine this year’s state champ.
The 2012 Dixie Youth Softball State Tournament series began Friday in Carrabelle with Holmes County defeating Belleview (FL) and Wewahitchka capturing the win over Wahneta (FL).
On day two Wewa started out with a win over Franklin County but fail short in a 3-0 loss to Holmes County. Sunday’s play was a do or die round for Wewa as they battled Holmes County for the win or possible elimination.
Wewa successfully pulled out the win and moved into the final state championship round set for Monday. The early round of Monday’s tournament pitted Holmes County against Belleview for a shot at moving into the final game with Wewa. After several hard fought innings Holmes County overpowered Belleview and secured their spot in the championship game.
Wewahitchka’s 10u Angels will be headed to Georgetown, SC next week to represent the state of Florida in the Dixie Youth Softball World Series Championship.
