GULF COUNTY, Fla- What better way to start the season than with a little rivalry game, Gulf County style. Friday night in Wewahitchka, it's the gators hosting their neighbors to the south, Port St. Joe in our "Southern Orthopedic Specialists" game of the week.
"I feel like we're way ahead of where we were last year at this time," Port St. Joe head coach Vern Barth said. "Offensively as far as the kids understanding what we expect of them, we're definitely way ahead of where we were exactly this time a year ago. Normally we've played them way, way at the end of the season, but the way the district's lined up, this gives us a chance to kind of get out there and compete early you know obviously throw out what happened last week with them and us, as far as the game and everything. And just gives our kids a little hyped up, a little extra spirit."
As far as the Gators go Coach Dennis Kizziah is having to shuffle some things around after losing starting QB and Linebacker Justin Flowers to a broken arm in the team's practice game last week. More on them later.
