Jeff Johnson talks about his Chipola baseball team's State Title run and why it's a relatively tired bunch of Indians returning to practice Monday.

Marianna, FL--- To say the least it's been a bit of a roller coaster ride for the Chipola Baseball team this season, but the important thing right now, the ride continues. Jeff Johnson and his guys are still working out this week, looking ahead to yet another trip to the National Tournament in Grand Junction Colorado. It will be Chipola's 3rd trip to Nationals in the last five years, remember the Indians won it all in oh-7. Pretty remarkable given the team lost 10 of it's first 19 games, and started the conference slate at 3-3. A late run though helped nail down a share of the league title with Northwest Florida, and then 5 wins in 6 games in five days of the State Tourney last week making Chipola State Champs. Monday I spoke with coach Johnson about the whirlwind of it all.

Jeff Johnson
Chipola Head Coach

"Yeah it has been a whirlwind Scott, we got back in late Wednesday night, or Thursday morning, whatever you want to call it. You know we gave the kids off until today, we're trying to get back to it, get started back. It's been a great feeling. You know the kids to go down and play as well as they did, especially pitching as well as we did, with three shutouts in that tournament. We really only had two bad innings the whole tournament. You know we just kind of trying to get our feet back underneath us, you know it's a grueling tournament with 6 games in five days in that type heat. So I felt like it would be more beneficial with all this time we got to give them some time off. They seem excited and ready to get back to it today."

The Indians take a 39-20 record out west, Jeff says they'll work out each day this week, take Saturday off, get back to it Sunday and practice until next Wednesday. They head out Thursday with their first game set for next Sunday night against a team from Texas.
