PANAMA CITY, FL- The 85th Sherman Invitational is into round two at the Panama Country Club. It's billed as the oldest amateur golf tournament in the southeast, and each year there's some pretty good golf played on the course. This year no different.
This year's field starting slowly on day one, only Lou Mitchell under par. But Saturday a bit different.
A few players in the final flights of the championship division playing well. The leader heading into Saturday, Lou Mitchell, went 3 under to post a two round 5 under for the invitational. He had competition from Mosley High School alum, and Florida State Seminoles, Chase Seiffert. Seiffert shoots a 4 under on day two to go 4 under for the tournament.
But the biggest day goes to former Sherman champ Mike Riley, he posts a 6 under 66 Saturday to tie Mitchell for the two day lead heading into the final day.
Riley said, "Always fun to be in the last group. It's a little stressful, but everybody who plays wants to be in the last group with a chance to win it on Sunday. So it's a good thing."
Seiffert added, "Final group on Sunday is what you play for in golf. That was my thoughts coming into this tournament, wanted to play good golf. It's going to take a good score. These guys aren't playing bad, and they're going to play good tomorrow too."
Here is the championship flight standings heading into Sunday's final round.
