Members of the Florida Supreme Court's residential mortgage foreclosure task force agreed that mediation would be a good way to expedite a flood of such cases.

They disagreed, though, on details Wednesday in oral arguments before the high court. The justices did not immediately act on the task force majority's recommendation to require mediation of owner-occupied homes with lenders picking up the tab.

Minority members argued that the costs -- an estimated $750 per case -- should be split 50-50 between lenders and borrowers and that mediation be offered on a voluntary basis.
