A second lawsuit in as many weeks has accused Florida of shortchanging the state's public schools.
The new case was filed Wednesday in Tallahassee by several parents and two advocacy groups -- Citizens for Strong Schools and Fund Education Now. The American Civil Liberties Union filed a similar complaint Nov. 5 in West Palm Beach.
The suits, both in state courts, allege violations of a provision in the Florida Constitution requiring that children get a "high quality education." Both claim low graduation rates are evidence the state is not living up to that mandate. The Tallahassee suit also cites Florida's low ranking in education spending and teacher pay and high rate of school violence.
