Tom Lewis is the News Director at Newschannel 7. Tom was born in Pensacola, Florida. When he was 3 years old his family moved to Panama City, so he considers this his hometown. Tom attended local schools, graduating from what was Bay County High School (now Bay High School), Gulf Coast Community College and Florida State University’s main campus in Tallahassee, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree from FSU’s College of Communications.
Tom's first television job was a Reporter/Weekend Anchor position at another Panama City network affiliate. He changed careers after one year, selling advertising for the same station. Then in 1983, Tom left the broadcasting business altogether and sold different lines of medical products for several Fortune 500 companies in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area. But he never got broadcasting out of his system.
In 1989, Tom returned to the same Panama City station to restart his television news career. When left there, he was the weeknight anchor/executive producer/assistant news director. Tom joined the Newschannel 7 staff on October 16, 2001, first as co-anchor of the 10:00pm news. Along the way he’s picked-up the additional responsibilities of executive producer, 6:00pm news co-anchor and finally News Director. He’s won several Florida Associated Press awards for Best Newscast, Best Public Service and Best Overall Coverage.
There are lots of things Tom would like to do in his spare time, but he has none.
