State Sen. Dan Gelber of Miami Beach says he's running for Florida attorney general.

The announcement Monday on Gelber's campaign Web site sets up a Democratic primary race against another state senator, Dave Aronberg of Greenacres in Palm Beach County.

Gelber dropped out of the U.S. Senate race May 30, urging Democrats to unify behind U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek. Gov. Charlie Crist, former House Speaker Marco Rubio and former New Hampshire Sen. Bob Smith are seeking the Republican Senate nomination.

Gelber was elected to the Florida Senate last year. He previously served in the Florida House, where he was Democratic leader.

Jim Lewis, a Fort Lauderdale lawyer, is the only Republican who has filed for attorney general.
