Temperatures will ease below the freezing mark a few hours after sunset and won't climb back up above 32º until mid-morning Wednesday. This freeze is a "long duration" event, lasting up to 12 hours in our inland areas. With the event lasting over a longer period, this qualifies as a hard freeze.
Inland areas will have it the worst, with up to 8 hours of temperatures in the mid 20's, while coastal areas will hold in the 20's just a few hours.
If you have exposed pipes or problematic piping, you will want to either insulate it or let it drip this evening. All pets and small plants need to come inside. And make sure to check on the elderly to see if they need any warm gear.
If you use a space heater, please keep them in the center of the room and away from laundry, sheets or curtains. Also, don't use your oven to heat your house as it may cause an electrical fire.
