PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Some Panama City Beach residents are dreaming of a white Christmas.
"I always love Christmas when it's snowing, but I don't think it's ever going to snow here so I think the snow is about as close as we're gonna get," Arkansas native Stephanie Smith said.
Even if it's not just like the ones they used to know.
"It's gonna be a lot colder in Oklahoma," Oklahoma native Julian Tucker said. "Sometimes we get snow, but that's about it. It doesn't feel like Christmas when it's Christmas here. I think that's the biggest difference."
Several families were out enjoying the white sand and clear water on Christmas Day.
Even that chilly Christmas temperature couldn't keep some beach goers from getting their feet a little wet.
"I like to come out and get in the water every once in awhile," Tucker said. "Even though it's really cold, it's kinda like a form of mental torture that I put myself through. I don't know, it's kinda fun."
Whether this beach trip was a tradition or an impulse decision, it's been a white Christmas these families won't soon forget.
There was one red flag flying at the beach on Christmas Day, meaning only the strongest swimmers should go in the water.
