Baker man accused of hitting roommate with hatchet

BAKER, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - What deputies say started as an argument between Baker roommates ended with one in jail and the other in the hospital.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office arrested Samuel Brunson, Jr., 54, Thursday night.

According to deputies, Brunson got into an argument with his roommate of three weeks, Jake Bell, 29. Brunson accused Bell of using drugs in his home and reportedly asked him to leave.

Brunson tells investigators Bell shoved him during the argument. Bell tells investigators Brunson demanded he leave and got a hatchet. Bell told them when he refused, Brunson hit him with it in the upper left arm, knocking him to the couch.

Deputies say Bell ran to a nearby shop and asked the clerk to call 911. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
