BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Twelve local sheriff's deputies headed out of town Tuesday morning to offer some relief to other deputies in storm-affected areas.
The Bay County Sheriff's Office received a mission request from the state's Emergency Operations Center asking their deputies for help in Hamilton County.
The deputies will be assisting with traffic control on I-75 in the area of I-10 and with security at local gas stations and rest stops.
"It appears, talking to the sheriff, that they have been non-stop for the last few days, dealing with traffic issues from the hurricane and now they need to take care of calls for service that they're citizens needs as well so we're there to help relieve that effort," Bay County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant David Baldwin said.
The sheriff's office has been preparing for weeks to offer this assistance.
