JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Miami-based Canadian Consul General Susan Harper visited with state and community leaders at Chipola College Tuesday afternoon.
Representatives from Senator BIll Nelson and Representative Neal Dunn's offices were at the luncheon and presentation.
Harper spoke about the possibility for future trade opportunities between Canada and Jackson County.
Jackson County leaders told Harper about the many different things northwest Florida has to offer.
They also spoke with her about the growing industry in the area, as well as the workforce gap they're working to close.
Harper said their biggest goal is to do more business and create more jobs.
"We have certain technologies that we think are of interest, certainly the environmental, Cleantech technologies, but there are other technologies as well and as is the case in many things, there are technologies here we can learn from," Harper said.
She said Canada strives to operate multilaterally, working with several different countries.
She said about one-sixth of Canadian jobs come from trade.
