Contract signed for new Lynn Haven Elementary cafetorium

LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - One of the next items on the half-cent sales tax list is about to begin.

Lee Walters, the Director of Facilities for Bay District Schools, said Lynn Haven Elementary will be receiving a new cafetorium, which is a cafeteria and auditorium.

The 16,000 square foot cafetorium is planned for the corner of 10th Street and Alabama Avenue. It is expected to hold 900 students.

According to Walters, the first phase of the project is a little over $7 million, which includes the cafetorium and a central utilities plant.

"As Lynn Haven has grown, they've had to add additional lunch periods and it's really condensed and made it a little difficult for them and the current cafeteria is 35 years old," Walters said.

Walters said Phase Two of the two-phase project will renovate the classrooms in the former cafeteria building, as well as turn the cafeteria and kitchen space into additional classrooms.
