SOUTH WALTON, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Red flags were raised this weekend on Walton County beaches, but one beach-goer decided to go for a swim, and needed rescuing. That beach-goer, a deer!
According to the Walton County Sheriff's Office, a fawn was seen struggling in the Gulf, nearly drowning, that's when another beach-goer jumped into action and brought the small deer to safety.
Although this incident has a happy ending, South Walton Fire District Lifeguard officials said they do not recommend others to do the same thing.
"We still encourage people to not put themselves and consequently others at risk by endeavoring to do something like that. There are always exceptions to the rule but the rule being, don't put yourself in danger," said SWFD Beach Safety Director, David Vaughan.
Walton County Sheriff's deputies responded and helped calm the fawn while waiting for Florida Fish and Wildlife Officials to relocate the fawn to dry land.
