Former basketball players compete in Old Timers Tournament

MARIANNA, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Some former high school basketball players dusted off their skills and hit the court Tuesday for a good cause.

Four teams competed in the first annual Old Timers Tournament at Marianna High School. Each team paid $200 to compete.

There were two teams from Marianna, one from Chipley, and another from Malone.

"It's kinda like a city against another city thing," Marianna Varsity Basketball Coach Rico Williams said. "Sorta like rekindling old rivalries."

Team Showtime from Marianna made up of mostly 1996 graduates won the tournament and $300.

"It means a lot to me," Marianna High School Principal Hunter Nolen said. "I know when Coach Williams talked to me before the break and thought about putting this tournament on, I got a couple of my old classmates from '96 together and it's for a great cause so we're having a good time."

The money raised goes to support the Marianna basketball program. The team leaves at 5:00 a.m. Wednesday to play Dacula High School just north of Atlanta.
