Fountain man charged with multiple counts of identity theft

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A Fountain man has been arrested after allegedly trying to open multiple fraudulent credit card accounts.

Bay County Sheriff's officials say the Panama City Beach Police Department received a complaint about a man trying to open a credit card account in the victim's name at a discount store in Panama City Beach.

They say further investigation revealed the suspect had made similar attempts using other victims' names.

The BCSO Financial Crimes Unit then began working with the PCBPD and identified 30-year-old Jack Barton, Jr. as their suspect.

Barton was charged with four counts of Criminal Use of Personal Identification Information, also known as identity theft, and taken to the Bay County Jail.

Investigators say the crime took place between October 1, 2017, and February 7, 2018, and involved multiple victims from throughout the country.
