LIBERTY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A Liberty County woman is behind bars after deputies say she beat a child who was in her custody.
Dallas Rodesha Hogans, 33, was arrested on December 13 after allegedly causing serious injury to a four-year-old.
Liberty County Sheriff's officials say the child came to school with an injured leg.
Staff at the Bristol Preschool told deputies the child was having trouble walking and appeared to have a broken leg.
Hogans told deputies she did not know anything was wrong with the child when he was sent to school.
The child was transported by ambulance to the Calhoun-Liberty Hospital.
Doctors said the child had no broken bones, but was given ADHD medicine, which was not prescribed to him.
Doctors also observed a bruise on the child's right butt cheek. They say when they touched the child's butt cheek, he would tense up and appeared to be in a lot of pain. The doctor also said she felt a lump under the skin, multiple bruises on his back, a laceration on the back of his right leg, and scrape marks on his back and legs.
Hogans told deputies she spanked the child with a paddle and then a belt for being "bad at school."
A deputy went to Hogan's residence, where she gave him the paddle.
Bus surveillance video was also collected, which deputies say shows the child walking with no issues the day before.
Both the paddle and video were placed with evidence.
Hogans is being charged with child abuse and child abuse with permanent disfigurement.
