MALONE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Big changes are coming for students in Malone. The school is upgrading its sewer service.
Officials from the Jackson County School Board, Northwest Florida Water Management District, and the Town of Malone held a groundbreaking ceremony Friday.
The school currently operates on 12 septic tanks, but thanks to a grant totaling more than $400,000, the septic tank hassle is almost over.
"It's gonna be a lot better because anybody that has a septic tank knows you have to have them pumped out, you have a lot of problems sometimes, and this is going to be a modernizing of the school," Malone mayor Gene Wright said. "We're excited about it. It's a joint project with us and the school board."
Wright said they'll do preliminary work while students are in school. They'll finish the project when school lets out.
