Vernon man faces multiple felonies after allegedly throwing drugs from vehicle

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A 50-year-old man was arrested Friday night during a traffic stop after he allegedly tried disposing of a bag from his car.

Washington County Sheriff's deputies say they attempted to pull over James Lee Coatney of Vernon for a traffic violation. Deputies say Coatney refused to stop and they noticed what appeared to be a bag being thrown from the vehicle.

Deputies say when they discovered the bag it contained one plastic bag of methamphetamine, two plastic bags of marijuana, and a glass pipe.

At some point, deputies were able to pull Coatney over and take him into custody. He was taken to the Washington County Jail and is facing multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, and fleeing and attempting to elude.
