New Developments: Man found dead in retention pond identified

DESTIN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A death investigation is underway by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office after the body of a missing mentally challenged Laurel Hill man was found behind a Destin apartment complex Friday morning.

Around 7am, deputies say a resident of the complex, located at 4231 West Commons Drive, contacted them after noticing something in the water. Upon arrival, investigators say they found a man face down in a retention pond.

Deputies have tentatively identified the victim as 40-year-old Adam Vaughn. He was reported missing Thursday evening by a caretaker from his group home after going to the restroom at Morgan's Sports Complex.

We're told by authorities there are no initial indications of foul play. An autopsy will be conducted to determine Vaughn's cause of death.
