PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A local family welcomed their newborn daughter just hours after the New Year countdown.

Stella Grace Carlson came into the world at Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center, weighing in at 7 lbs., 12 oz.

Her mom, Madilyn and dad Steve say they weren't expecting to have the first baby of the year.

In fact, baby Stella came about three days early.

"We were actually going to be induced on January 4th, but my O.B. did say 'I don't think she'll make it past December 30th,' and I kept saying 'Well, as long as she comes before the first, I want her to come before the first,' but she decided to be stubborn and come right at the beginning of the first," New mom Madilyn Carlson said.

The new parents say they're happy to have had Stella on New Year's Day over any other holiday, because she'll always have the day off to celebrate and she'll get a fireworks show every year.
