Officer-involved shooting in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - FDLE is investigating after an officer-involved shooting in Springfield early Thursday morning.

According to the Springfield Police Department, they responded to the intersection of Cherry Street and Bob Little Road to a possible shooting around 2 a.m.

Police say an officer approached an individual when the person turned around and pointed a pistol at the officer. The officer then fired at the person. He/she was hit and then ran away.

Officers were able to track the person down and he/she was taken to a local hospital. Names have not been released. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation.
