Springfield Police search for suspect involved in fleeing from police; crashing into a home

SPRINGFIELD, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Springfield Police Department is searching for a suspect they say crashed into a home, power pole and fence Monday morning.

Authorities said they received a call about at unwanted guest at 139 Springfield Avenue. When they arrived, they saw a man get into a white sport utility vehicle and drive away. The driver then reportedly began following the police vehicle.

According to a press release, the officer maneuvered away from the SUV just before being struck. The officer then got behind the SUV with emergency lights and siren activated. Springfield police said the vehicle didn't stop and instead sped away.

Authorities then saw the vehicle turn onto a dead end street. After allegedly hitting a wooden fence, power pole and residence, the driver got out of the vehicle and ran from the officer.

The driver has been identified as 36-year-old Jonathan Griggs, but police are still on the search for the suspect.
