WCSO: Deputy's unprofessionalism causes him to turn in his badge

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to information released on the Walton County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) Facebook page Wednesday afternoon, investigators found out about an incident involving one of their own.

Officials said Tuesday morning they learned about a deputy involved in professional misconduct.

The investigation confirmed the deputy improperly used his role to contact a woman he previously helped while on duty Sunday.

Officials said on the Facebook page, "This conduct is beyond the realm of professionalism we demand of our employees and is not to be tolerated."

The deputy behind the incident worked for WCSO for less than a year.

He was relieved of his duties, badge, weapon, and escorted out of the Administrative Offices.

“The position of a Sheriff Deputy is held to a higher standard and is one that requires trust,” Sheriff Michael Adkinson said. “This individual’s blatant disregard of his oath will not be ignored and that is why swift action was taken.”
