NBH A.D. talks about searching for a new head football coach

PANAMA CITY, Fla (WJHG/WECP) - The search continues for North Bay Haven's new head football coach.

The Buc's parting ways with former head coach Jeff Lee three weeks ago Tuesday.

North Bay Haven Athletic Director Kevin Jacobs is in charge of finding a new head coach, and he says he's busy working through more than 60 applications.

Jacobs says he's interviewed two coaches on staff that are qualified and intends to interview another six or seven applicants.

"We've had some pretty good candidates," Kevin Jacobs, North Bay Haven Athletic Director said. "We've had college coaches. I just got off the phone with a guy who used to play for the Falcons and so it's been kind of interesting for us. We have a couple of coaches on staff that have qualified, and we've interviewed them already. So what we're going to do is we're going to interview over the next probably five or six, or seven business days. We'll widdle it down to three or four people, and then we're going to form a committee of three or four people and talk to them."

That committee includes Jacobs, NBH principal Mike McLaughlin, administrative assistant Cas Gant, and Jamie Vickers, the principal at Bay Haven Middle School.

Again, Jacobs is looking to interview another six or seven applicants. Some from our area, some from beyond it.

"It's hard to convince people from here that we need to look outside, and see what's out there," Jacobs said. "Because if you don't broaden that, you're really restricting yourself on what's here. Now that's nothing against the people in this community, or the coaches that are in this community, because we have some very good. But I always like to look. If they hadn't of looked, I wouldn't have come here."

Coach Jacobs, who comes from Georgia, is hopeful to have a coach in place by spring break.
