Iranian state television says a soccer club dissolved its female team after playing against the club's male youth squad. The game was unprecedented in Iranian soccer and prompted a scandal.
Tuesday's TV report came after the club suspended three officials -- including coaches for both teams -- and slapped them with fines of up to $5,000.
The controversial game between the two Estghlal teams took place on Jan. 20 in Tehran. Estghlal is one of Iran's top two clubs.
Iran's strict Islamic rule bans any physical contact between unrelated men and women. Iranian women are banned from attending soccer games when male teams play. Women can only attend games when women's teams play. However, foreign women are occasionally allowed at men's matches.
