Several Bay County clergies came together in Lynn Haven Thursday for a united peace rally.

Pastors read a joint statement denouncing racism and making a declaration for justice. Local pastor Jesse Nelson said the goal of the rally was to show the community different clergies stand in solidarity. Part of the statement read, “We denounce all forms of hate speech, hate groups, and any system, groups, or individuals, who jeopardize the decency of life for Black Americans.”

”I hope they can see today through this demonstration of unity that change is possible. And that Jesus Christ is that source of that change because the community is looking for a solution to racism, to oppression, to discrimination, to all the plagues of sin in our community,” Macedonian Missionary Baptist Church senior pastor Jesse Nelson said. “And I hope that’s another takeaway, is that Jesus is the solution to the problem.”

Nelson went on to say he plans on funding a nonprofit in the community that will continue to move the conversation forward.
