Local teams take Grand Slam

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG) - Session One of Grand Slam Baseball wrapped up Saturday, and a few Bay County teams took home the hardware . 14U HR Impact a team out of Santa Rosa Beach and Panama City had a solid fight to the finish. they went in undefeated to the championship bracket against a 4-1 Mountainview Gold and lost during extra innings. However, in a termination game to determine the champions, they came out in the first inning with three runs, and ended the game victorious as they came out on top with a 21-5 win.

“It’s great for us because we are from here, and we get to represent our community, local boys. A lot of these boys coming out Tennessee, Tallahassee, Texas, all over the place. There’s just something about the hometown right here. After the hurricane, all the things we have been through as far as the beaches being closed and stuff like that, getting back to some sort of normalcy, we are having fun. We are glad to be out here,” said coach Harry Mandel, of HR Impact.

The Bay County Cubs also took home their own 7 foot trophy. The 12u team beat out team Alabama 10-2.

Session Two will begin on Monday with 88 teams heading down to compete.
