PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG) -Coach Rhondie Ross is back with most of his players these days Ross able to gather with his players, as part of phase two of the state’s easing of restrictions related to COVID 19.

Ordinarily this time time in the summer, they would be into a summer schedule of games against other teams, but hey, as coach Ross puts it, they’ll take what they can get.

“We are just happy to be back.” coach Ross told us during Monday’s practice. “

I know I am. I know I was just sitting around eating a lot gaining weight, stuff like that. And it mage I can’t afford to do that so we’re just happy to be back in the gym. It’s been fun though. I would like to have a little bit better attendance. I know we’re missing a few guys for football and stuff like that. But it’s been fun, I’ve been able to work with the younger kids. You know it was an adjustment because we have to go through a different phase system.”

Coach says they are having to spend extra time just letting the kids in the gym.

“You know the kids come in, we have to log them in.” Ross said. “And then we have to take their temperature. We’re logging everything in. We have to ask questions like maybe they have a family member who is sick and stuff like that. So it’s definitely an adjustment period. And then we have to disinfect everything when we get done. We have to spray down the equipment, the basketballs. If we’re in the weight room of course we have to wipe everything down in there too.”

Phase one wouldn’t even let players pass the ball between them. At least we’re past that now, though again, we’re still not at the point where they can let teams play against each other.

“The first phase you know, the kids couldn’t share a basketball. So each kid had to have his own basketball. So now we’re in phase two where we can actually share the ball, and passing drills and stuff like that. But the kids are getting antsy and want to get to some competitive stuff, but we just have to wait around for that.”
