PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG) -

There will be a new addition to one Lynn Haven park.

Tuesday, commissioners approved a new plaque to be placed on the Grand Soldiers Monument at the memorial park. This is the fourth of three already existing plaques at the monument, and is funded by the Heritage Society. They wanted to add it as part of the memorial’s original design but it was never completed.

”The union statue memorial is important to the city of Lynn Haven because it was founded, the city, by a union soldier. But if I may also say I think all historical statues- whether they’re confederate, union, federal, whatever they are- I, as a former teacher, believe that erasing history is not the way to teach people about history,” said Lynn Haven mayor, Margo Anderson.

Anderson said the city will announce a date in which the plaque will be dedicated and installed at the park.
