PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG) -
Good Wednesday morning everyone!
It’s been a little active overnight with a passing batch of showers and thunderstorms moving through the Panhandle, mainly over Bay County. That activity is fizzling out a bit, but may still hold together long enough to bring some light pitter patters to roof tops early on today as they drift further east. Otherwise, most of the day will be fairly quiet but under a bit more cloud cover than days prior. I’ll have a shot at rain returning later in the afternoon, but not for everyone.
We’re once again fairly warm and humid out the door with dew points and temperatures both in the 70s. So dress comfortably. With a bit more cloud cover in our skies to start the day, we should warm fairly slowly and find some comfort through the mid morning as we crawl our way into the 80s. Skies thin out through the midday, and sunshine will return us to the upper 80s to near 90 degrees for afternoon highs with feels like temperatures in the mid to upper 90s.
We’ll see that heat and humidity, combined with the sea breeze, and a broad troughing pattern in the upper levels of the atmosphere to our west lead toward enough lift to produce more storms this afternoon. However, a bit more ridging over the Florida Peninsula and Southeastern Gulf of Mexico will help to limit some of the stormy-ness in the Panhandle. The better chance for catching a storm today will be north of Highway 20 on up into South Alabama. Some storms may be strong to severe with damaging gusty winds, heavy rains, and an isolated tornado or two will be possible.
The storms will diminish some heading into tonight, but we'll still carry a chance for some overnight showers or thunderstorms.
For today, mostly to partly cloudy skies with afternoon showers and thunderstorms mainly along I-10 and north into Alabama. Some storms may be strong to severe with gusty winds, heavy rains, and an isolated tornado or two possible. Highs today top out in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. Your 7 Day Forecast brings in another unsettled afternoon for tomorrow, before the stormy pattern backs off into the weekend.
